2011 Broome County Fair 4-H Animal Science Show
All exhibitors did a fantastic job with their 4-H projects and educating the public about agriculture. Congratulations to all Exhibitors on a great job! A special congratulation to the following:
Goat show: Receiving Master Showman was Michelle Boyle and reserve Master Showman was Kalima Bryan. In breed classes in the Recorded Grade class, Grand Champion went to Alexis Gates and Reserve to Victoria Petrie, in meat goats Grand Champion went to Deanna Green, Grand Champion Market Kid was won by Leih Glezen and Reserve by Lyndsey Glezen.
Sheep Show: Leih Glezen was named Master Showman and Reserve Master Showman was won by Michelle Boyle. Grand Champion Market Lamb was won by Lindsey Glezen and Reserve Champion Market Lamb was won by Emmanuel Coy. Denise Butts received the Grand Champion Tunis honors.
Swine Show: Master Showman was won by Sonny Coy and Reserve Master Showman by Issaac Coy. Grand Champion Market hog went to Deanna Green and Reserve Grand Champion to Emmanuel Coy.
Beef Show: Emily DeYoung was Master Showman and also had Grand Champion Market Steer.
Dairy Cattle Show: Master Showman was won by Louise Holcomb and Reserve Master Showman went to Deanna Green. David Meisner had a great day in the breed classes receiving Grand Champion Holstein, Brown Swiss, and Ayrshire and went on to have his Brown Swiss named Supreme Champion. Louise Holcomb won Grand Champion with her Guernsey and Nathan Lawton was Grand Champion Jersey.
4-H Poultry Show: Master Showman was won by Micelle Paukett and Reserve Master Showman went to Marissa Lengel. Best of show honors went to Michelle Paukett and Reserve Best of Show was won by Marissa Lengel.
4-H Rabbit Show: Best of breed for Commercial Breeds went to Sophia Kominos, Best of Breed for Dutch Black went to Victoria Petrie, Best of breed for Jersey went to Denise Butts, Best of Breed for Netherland Dwarf went to Denise Butts, Best of Breed for the Mini Rex went to Desirae Erne, Best of Breed for Lionhead went to Olivia Kominos, Best Cavy of Show went to Olivia Kominos.

2011 Broome County 4-H Livestock Sale and Pie Auction a huge Success
The second annual Broome County 4-H Livestock sale and Pie Auction was held on July 30th at the Broome County Fair. This year's sale was a great success with four market hogs, 6 market lambs and eight market kids in this years sale. Youth participating in this years program included Issaac Coy, Sonny Coy, Immanuel Coy, Deanna Green, Lindsey Glezen, Leih Glezen, Micelle Boyle, and Elizabeth Smith. Youth raise their animals starting in late winter early spring with plans to sell a finished animal at the livestock sale. This year we had numerous buyers and many donated animals back, with some animals selling five times before being sold to an individual.
The Grand Champion Market goat was sold to Dave Wheelock of Farm Family Insurance, Jim Petrie of Nationwide Insurance and Kevin Gorman. The Reserve Grand Champion was sold to Cargill, Aukema-Dairy/MacMara Holsteins, Jim Petrie of Nationwide Insurance, Manasse Auctioneers and Kevin Gorman. Other buyers of Market Goats included Glezen Farms, Linda Walker, Brian Aukema, and Tractor Supply.
The Grand Champion Market Lamb was sold to Dave Wheelock of Farm Family Insurance and Patrick Hunter. Reserve Grand Champion lamb went to Toby Wollen. Other buyers of market lambs included Amy Schapiro, David Bradstreet, Cargill, Manasse Auctioneers, Kevin Gorman, Ferd Laudig and Holly Jacobs.
The Grand Champion Market Hog was sold to Kip and Jamie Herner, Reserve Grand Champion went to Laura Biasillo. Other Market Hogs buyers were Peggy Sniezek and Andy Hinkley from Farm Family Insurance.
During the sale we also hold our annual Pie Auction with buys donated by 4-H Families. This year’s buyers were Mary Reynolds, Matt Manasse, Brenda Canniff, Tom Ellis Refrigeration, Yetter Farms, Aukema-Dairy, Peter Meskill, and Bert Adams Disposal.
A special thank you to Mel and Matt Manasse for donating their time to the sale and to all the buyers of the market animals and Pies.
The 4-H market program is open to any youth ages 8 to 19 years of age. Youth that participate in this program learn about responsibility, marketing, how to raise animals, the food cycle and other great life skills.
